Dave’s job

David’s school’s beginner band (6th graders) has a concert Friday night. We’re looking forward to this concert being done and over with… David in class and me in my lessons. Of all the schools I teach in, though, I really feel that David’s school does the best job with the 6th graders. At other middle schools, the 6th graders are clumped in with the 7th and 8th graders’ bands. We used to do it that way in Roma, but the concert lasted about 4-5 hours … we had 6th through 12th one night and it was the worst way we could have run a band concert. Worst. Way. Ever. And the 6th graders’ portion of the concert was always last… otherwise all the parents would leave and the high schoolers would be playing to an audience of nine band directors.

Just another reason to love his current job!
