Our little Grape

Saturday, December 11th, 2004

We now have a fetus. Approx. the size of a grape according to my various pregnancy sources. Now how do you know what size a grape is exactly? Is it a seedless grape? I have been eating many grapes lately (they are about the only thing that taste good and that don’t require much chewing) and they range in sizes! so… I guess it is a pretty accurate description since different women’s 9w 2d fetuses are all different sizes too!

Mmm… grapes…

I stuck ‘em in the freezer. Thanks for that tip, mom! I will enjoy them in a few hours. That’s the other thing I really go for these days: popcyciles! So to freeze grapes must be the best thing on the planet right about now.

Ooo, and in some exciting news, Darlene and Chris had their baby on December 7th. Chris is an old friend from the days of CCHS. I found ‘em online and started emailing his wife. She’s awesome. I’m sure they’ll be great parents.

Dr. Mac

Thursday, December 9th, 2004

So tonight is the monthly CapMac meeting… and Bob Levitus is here speaking to the group. He’s pretty funny. Here are some of the things he said that made us laugh!

There’s something vintage about os9. It’s herbal.

Garageband, to me, is the most fun you can have with your mac on.

Did you see the beachball?! Did you see the beachball of hell there?!
(when his mac gave him the spinning rainbow ball)

You can really waste a lot of time to save a minute.
      (talking about QuicKeys)

There’s something fun about lying to your friends.
      (talking about DD Tournament Poker)

It’s like having an aquarium but they never float belly-up.
      (talking about this screensaver)

Some of those you had to be there for, but you get the idea of his sense of humor. We had a great time.

I just had to post this; it’s so sweet! And yes, it already feels like waiting waiting waiting!

Thanks, Becky, for cheering up my day! You’re the best!

Blood work

Tuesday, December 7th, 2004

I got a message from the nurse today on the answering machine. Though the complete message was hard to hear, I gather that I did, indeed, have a full-blown urinary tract infection two weeks ago. I am immune to rubella, yay, and my blood type is O-positive. I didn’t think I had O-positive blood, but then again, those high school chemistry blood-type experiments weren’t exactly done in the most scientific of methods, despite the great care we took with our lab report write-ups. I’m going to go look up my shot records and birth certificate to see if my blood type was already available information. Oh yeah, and in case you’re reading this, Nicole, the nurse who called me was Denise.

Mom came down to Austin today… we went bra shopping.

From a 32A (and not even that — more like 32AA) to a 34B, yeah, baby, yeah!

Okay, maybe that was a little bit TMI (too much information) but every reason to celebrate at this point is a good one. Like still not having thrown up. And for having slept through the night every night last week! These moments are little milestones. Accomplishments. Good Things.

AND, I now own a maternity shirt. Yep, though it doesn’t fit, and looks like a tent, I own one.

the haps

Two more weeks of school. Two more weeks of lessons (though I think I am going to take the last week off from the High School students… wierd finals schedule!) and then we’re off for two weeks. The first week will be cruisin’ on the Royal Caribbean Rhapsody of the Seas and the second week will be nice for David… full of various appointments for Jen. We’re spending New Years at the Miller’s house (looking forward to it… we’ll have to figure out how to squeeze some fireworks in) and maybe drive up to Dallas on New Years Day for some Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma alumni partying. Don’t worry… our old frat and sorority are not party groups… they’re the ones who take care of the marching bands at their universities! Hard work!

I am getting the itch to re-work this website. Of course, that itch comes and goes, but it is especially itchy right now. I won’t have the time until Spring Break, so in the meantime, I’m sketching up ideas. Once the baby is born, I would like to start doing web-work as full-time as possible… this means learning a lot more and making a lot of sample designs and a lot of attention to detail. Some people I’ve talked to don’t think it will be possible to do web-work and take care of a newborn, but I think it would be a lot easier than teaching clarinet lessons and taking care of a newborn. At the very least, the computer is at home. It’s looking like my clarinet-income will be put on at least a one-school-year pause.

David and I have slowed down taking pictures and posting them. I appologize. We will have more than a few pictures to post in three weeks. Check back then!

David has been busy in his free time playing Metriod Prime 2 Echos… I’m sure he’ll post a review of it after he’s gotten more play time in.

Right now, we’re expecting my parents for a visit just any minute. Mom and I are going to go shopping and I’m sure the guys will tag along grudgingly.

Ninth week blues

Friday, December 3rd, 2004

Yes, I know, we’re EIGHT weeks and ONE day, but that ONE day is the start of the NINTH week. Pregnancy math, let me tell you.

Today is my first completely nauseated day. Not bad, though. No running to a bathroom yet! But I have been consistently sick-to-my-stomach-queasy. I’ve had a realization about food: If I can smell it, I don’t want it. Odorless foods are the bomb. Namely big pretzels with salt and salads and cereal and popcicles and grapes. Same goes for restaurants. Souper Salad is the bomb. It doesn’t smell like fried anything or like cooked meat at all! And their blueberry bread kicks butt. This realization came last night when David wanted to take me to Olive Garden for a salad and I told him I couldn’t stomach the smells of everyone else’s cooked meals so he got Olive Garden salad togo! What a concept! We had our non-smelling dinner at home without the pain of having to prepare it! yeah!

My dad is learning a Hawaiian lulaby. He IM’ed me the mp3 file of the song and it is beautiful. Bee-autiful. When Pueo Flies (scroll down to #20 and click on their link for a windows media player quick listen)

Dave’s job

Thursday, December 2nd, 2004

David’s school’s beginner band (6th graders) has a concert Friday night. We’re looking forward to this concert being done and over with… David in class and me in my lessons. Of all the schools I teach in, though, I really feel that David’s school does the best job with the 6th graders. At other middle schools, the 6th graders are clumped in with the 7th and 8th graders’ bands. We used to do it that way in Roma, but the concert lasted about 4-5 hours … we had 6th through 12th one night and it was the worst way we could have run a band concert. Worst. Way. Ever. And the 6th graders’ portion of the concert was always last… otherwise all the parents would leave and the high schoolers would be playing to an audience of nine band directors.

Just another reason to love his current job!
