I had so much fun last week taking his portraits that I am considering making our photo session a regular event…

In the last week, he has started smiling, cooing (which sounds like “oooh!”), following things with his eyes… This morning, during his 6 a.m. diaper change, I had a flashlight shining on the ceiling for just-enough-light so not to wake him up but so that I could see what I was doing. Well, the flashlight shifted and guess who was awake enough to stare at it? I was amazed at how well he followed the light from left to right!

He is asleep right now… I have his little bubble butt propped up on the lap desk (we have the dark cherry) … with the keyboard on the lapdesk … and he is leaning against my chest. Pretty soon, he will be too big to sit on the lap desk while mommy types and surfs the internet… then again, pretty soon he will be in his own room, sleeping in the crib instead of on mom, though I do love it. I never thought I would be someone’s #1 preferred place to sleep.

You know what happens tomorrow, don’t you?

As I sit here typing this, David and James are having fun behind me on the bed. David is getting James to smile and imitate his facial expressions. It’s like witnessing a miracle, seeing your first sunrise, and getting married all over again - yes, it’s that exciting!

I would like to point out that the blanket in the background of the right half of the picture was crocheted by his great-great-grandma Yamaguchi which has been passed down the family to us. Yes, James has Japanese blood in him. It makes him all the more handsome, don’t you think?

I always have so many things to remember between the 23 and 24th of August that I get them all mixed up, so please forgive me if I am a day late on the happy wishes. We will have to get out later and do I.O.U. gifts since James is still a little young for shopping trips.
