Me. Jen. Cooking.

Monday, January 30th, 2006

Ever try to keep up a teething 6.5 month old past his naptime on purpose? We are having lots of fun right now, let me tell you. We just got back from a long walk to get the mail and now he’s in his jumperoo.

My goal is to get him to sleep at 4:30 so I can start cooking. Yes, you read correctly, cooking. I never cook. Until today.

Me. Jen. Cooking.

We are taking our dear friends, the Walkers, dinner. They’re the ones that had triplets a week ago. I’ll be cooking Dave’s delicious medieval baked chicken with pan-fried German potatoes. The salad needs no cooking. And the cookies are already done. I tried to find a link… but couldn’t… they’re the cookie of the month from Jan 2006 Martha Stewart Living magazine. On the last page. They look like the hardest part of the meal but baking is not cooking. I can bake. I can’t cook.

The chicken recipe that we’re using can be found here and is THE MOST DELICIOUS Chicken I have ever put into my mouth. In fact, it might just have to be the Recipe of the Year for our 2006 Christmas Letter. It’s that good. And, I just noticed, it’s rated easy. Excellent.

I think we might just make it to the 4:30 goal. We might have a melt-down first, though.

UPDATE: As I was preheating the oven, it occured to me that I am technically baking the chicken, so it’s only the potatoes I’m worried about now. And James went to sleep precisely at 4:30 as planned.

UPDATE: We just got done eating (I cooked for 4 people) and it was just as yummy as when David cooks it. Yay! I didn’t burn the apartment building down!

About to be crawling

He’s very very close to crawling… Just Thursday he started rocking back and forth on his hands and knees as well as jumping in the jumperoo. He tries to crawl every time he is on his tummy but it always seems to end up in a big fat face plant so far.

We spent Saturday at Grandma and Grandpa Knight’s house and I hope it is the first of many relaxing Saturdays that we just chill out up there. I was so nice to be in a house with family, play a couple of rounds of Skip-Bo, relax next to the aquarium, and watch a fire grow in the fireplace. That is the stuff that dreams are made of. Well, mine anyhow.

This is what we love about flickr:

James went with my mom and brother on Wednesday to pick up Jer’s new car while I was teaching and David was at work.

This picture just showed up in Jer’s photostream. Sneaky, sneaky. . .

Jumpa-Jumpa-JumpaROOOO!

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

Yep, he did it! He finally figured out what the jumperoo’s purpose is. And not the poopful purpose, though we do sometimes call it the pooperoo, too. I managed to capture on video a few moments of all the jumping going on this afternoon. Maybe David can get it off the video camera, and not so that you need Quicktime 7 to view cuz I know a lot of you aren’t going to go download that no matter how many movies of James we put online.

Walker’s Triplets

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Our close friends, the Walkers, had their triplets today. Please keep that whole family in your prayers as there was an emergency with the new mom’s bleeding. She’s in stable condition right now and we are praying for a speedy and healthy recovery. All three babies are doing wonderfully.

UPDATE: 1/24/06
The new mom is still in ICU, but is no longer on the ventilator. She had to have a hysterectomy to stop the bleeding and is now recovering. Please keep this family in your prayers, all five of them (all 5 of the family members, not all 5 of your prayers).

UPDATE: 1/24/06, evening
there are three pictures up on our flickr account since I had a hard time emailing them. I did not take the pictures of the triplets; I think a teacher-friend of the Walker’s took the pictures.

UPDATE: 1/26/06
The new mom was up and walking today and even had enough strength to shower. She’s been visiting her babies and trying to get all three of them to nurse, as she’s been having the lactation nurses in her room to help her as she got a late start to nursing.

new photos

Either choose the lazy way to see them all or go the more techincal way to see some of them, unless you’re a friend or family contact. Sorry about making some of them private for friends and family only on flickr. I just don’t want to flood my public photostream with gobs of similar pictures of James. Gotta keep it interesting, full of change!

Stinkeroo

James is 6 months old. Offically.

My camera broke today. Officially.

Here are pictures of both:

weighing in

I am so screwed, part III

Here are the long stories:

James is 19 pounds, 3 ounces (he was moving around in the picture) 28 inches long. He got 4 shots and they did not seem to bother him very much. He has a bad rash that the doctor said may be a yeast infection, and he has had a “rattle” in his breathing for a month now. She advised us to use Lotrimin on his rash and prescribed Singulair powder for his chest congestion. He has to eat the singulair on food, so we’re feeding him baby food every night now, whether we want to or not. Tonight was sweet potatoes. The doc also pointed out that his gums are swollen and rough on top, so we should be prepared for his top two teeth to come breaking through soon. Great. More Teething. Yay. Just what we need. Why can’t we have a break between teeth? Please, James, just a few months more before you get your chompers? He’s growing up so fast. It’s just flying by. Whoosh, there went 6 months… wave bye-bye! His next appointment is April 19, and will be his 9 month appointment which I know will feel like just a few days from now.

My camera was giving me “Err 02″ which means a CF card error. We were misled by the card reader not working and thought it must be the card, so I put the itsy-bitsy (128MB) CF card into the card slot and … and … and … it got stuck! I didn’t press it in crooked or harder than normal or anything. Both CF cards are fine, but now my canon 300D is not. Boo…
