My first yarn!

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

I just want to roll around in that roving.

Handspinning yarn is crazy-relaxing. I can’t believe how good it feels to do something the same way people have done for thousands of years. This is my new drop spindle, a Cascade Little Si, sitting on a bed of super soft roving.

Bah Humbug

I think we are the only ones in the world that don’t give a single thing to our kids for Easter.  Nope, not a single egg.  Not a single candy, not a single bunny, not one darn thing.  And what’s cool is that they don’t know the difference.  I wonder how many more years we can be Scrooge without them realizing that their parents are jipping them of the worldy, false celebrations of Easter.

Crosses

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

This is cross posted (no pun intended) over in my photoblog. I just wanted to post it here in case y’all don’t visit over there regularly. There are tons more pictures going up tomorrow on the photoblog after I get them processed and uploaded to flickr.

My brother joined me for picture-taking at the Good Friday service tonight. Here’s a few pictures of the crosses. We had all three of our cameras out, from the 5D Jerry just bought to the old 300D I’m currently using (but desperately need to upgrade). I had the two rebels and Jer had the 5D.

They were all over. The crosses filled the Deep End.

They were even outside and in the gym.

Almost Ours

I would have to say that I was quite impressed with the way this house fared in its inspection today. Don’t get me wrong; there is a lot of work that needs to be put into it, but it’s all superficial (well, besides the garage door opener and gutters) and easy to fix. I am almost completely convinced that we are getting a great deal and that the reason we are getting such a good deal is because of the butt-ugly pink brick that Centex homes built this house with. Well, that and the interior is pretty dirty… but the dirty can be cleaned and let’s face it, those bricks are just plain ugly.

If all goes well with the paperwork, we should close in early April. Woo-hoo! Thanks to everybody that’s been a’prayin’ for us in this process. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Sheesh…

If I’d have known it was this easy to make header images, I would have been doing it this way for a long time. Nope, I have a .psd file saved in photoshop with smart objects and three layers and made them that way for the longest time. Never again. Thank you, fd’s flickr toys.

Thanks, Mom and Dad!

Birthday present came today. Thanks so much for the new lens.
